How to Draw & Paint Fashion

I was fortunate enough to go to the Fashion Institute of Technology for college. My two favorite classes were "History of Fashion" and "Fashion Art & Design." I liked those classes so much that I went on to teach a combination of those classes after I graduated. I was very excited when I came across How To Draw & Paint Fashion & Costume Design, which teaches you how to draw the fashion figure throughout history.

By breaking the human figure down into 9 inches you learn how to proportion the figure. At school we used a 10 inch scale and that extra inch was used at the bottom to add length between the knee and foot to give that "super model" figure!

When coloring in the figure and clothing, I like to use Prismacolor markers. The marker has a broad point and a fine point and a wide variety of colors to choose from. Using different angles, strokes, and colors you can imitate the various fabrics that have been fashionable throughout the years.

In fashion, hairstyle is another accessory in and of itself, and it's a very important piece to complete any iconic style. What would the flapper be without her bob?

What is your favorite decade for fashion?
